Frequently Asked Questions
If you have never worked with a mental health clinician, here are some common questions you may have
What is a psychological evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a report or document with a summary of a person’s life, similar to a snapshot of one’s life supplemented with psychological testing. The results are written in a comprehensive report that includes a summary of all topics discussed during our appointments, testing results, a diagnosis (if any), and recommendations.
What is psychological testing?
Psychological tests are tools mental health clinicians use to clarify a diagnosis. Psychological tests can be self-report measures or administered by a clinician. Psychological tests are not tests that you study for. Simply be honest and offer your best effort when you are answering questions.
How is a psychological evaluation different than an immigration psychological evaluation?
Depending on the type of immigration case, an immigration evaluation will focus on a client’s experience in relation to trauma or possible extreme hardship. Immigration psychological evaluations can be used by attorneys to support immigration cases.
What will happen during our appointment?
During our appointment, we will talk about your experiences (interview) and complete assessment measures related to your experiences (psychological testing). Typically, we will meet twice. We will meet either in person or via telehealth. Telehealth appointments utilize a confidential, HIPAA-compliant platform.
What is a clinical interview?
A clinical interview is a semi-structured interview that aids in diagnosis. The clinical interview lasts approximately two to three hours. I will ask questions about your background and your current mood and functioning. You decide how much you share, but the more I know, the more capable I will be to write a comprehensive evaluation.
When will my report be ready?
Reports are completed two weeks after the date of our last appointment. In urgent cases, I can have the report completed in a shorter period of time for an expedited fee.
Do you take insurance?
Unfortunately, immigration psychological evaluations are not covered by insurance. I accept payments by cash, debit card, or credit card.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, the fee can be paid in two or three installments. The first installment is due during the first appointment, and the remainder installments must be received before I release the evaluation to you and your attorney.
